Your eyes help define your face, but they are also one of the first areas to show signs of aging. Sun damage, loss of collagen, and other factors can lead to drooping skin and puffy undereye bags. An eyelid lift can restore your alert, youthful-looking eyes to re-energize your entire face. Dr. Leong specializes in dramatic but natural-looking eyelid lift results.

What is an Eyelid Lift or Blepharoplasty?

Many factors contribute to sagging or puffy eyelids, including genetics, the use of skin care products, and sun protection. An eyelid lift, properly known as blepharoplasty, is a procedure that rejuvenates the eye area.

Depending on your needs, you can have blepharoplasty on your upper lids, lower lids, or both. An upper eyelid lift will focus on drooping lids and excess skin and may also tighten the muscles and remove excess fat. A lower eyelid lift removes or repositions fat pads that cause a puffy appearance, then tightens the lid if needed for a more youthful look.

How Much Does an Eyelid Lift Cost?

The cost of an eyelid lift varies depending on many factors. These include whether you are having upper, lower, or both sets of eyelids treated, your location, and your chosen provider. Blepharoplasty with Dr. Leong begins at about $6500. She recommends a consultation to provide you with an accurate estimate.

Several types of financing are available if you have concerns about the cost of your eyelid lift. You may see other estimated eyelid lift costs from other sources, but keep in mind that you typically get what you pay for, and a surgical procedure is not a time to cut corners.

How is an Eyelid Lift Performed?

Dr. Leong performs blepharoplasty using oral sedation and local anesthesia in an outpatient setting. Depending on whether you have upper or lower blepharoplasty or both, the surgery can take up to two hours.

Upper Blepharoplasty

The incision for an upper eyelid lift is hidden in a crease of the eyelid skin. Dr. Leong uses this incision to remove excess skin and fat, then tighten the skin and muscles. An upper blepharoplasty addresses drooping lids that may even start to obscure your vision.

Lower Blepharoplasty

This procedure may use an incision inside the eyelid or hidden in a crease, depending on how much skin tightening you require. Dr. Leong will remove fat pads and subtly tighten the skin to make the undereye area smoother and more youthful.

Is There a Non-Surgical Alternative to Blepharoplasty?

Not everyone with concerns about their eye area needs an eyelid lift. Men and women with mild skin laxity and fine lines can often benefit from laser resurfacing or chemical peels. This treatment fades pigmentation issues and stimulates collagen production for firmer, smoother skin. If you have concerns about lines, wrinkles, and other signs of aging around the eyes, Dr. Leong might also recommend injectable treatments such as muscle relaxers or dermal fillers. Dr. Leong collaborates with her colleague, dermatologist Dr. Zena Gabriel, for non-surgical treatment options.

Am I a Good Candidate for an Eyelid Lift?

An eyelid lift is a safe, effective way to rejuvenate the eyes. Good candidates for blepharoplasty have healthy eyes and reasonable expectations. Ideal candidates want to address significant eyelid drooping, loose skin, or puffiness. Dr. Leong will assess your concerns to determine whether blepharoplasty will provide the results you want.
