Your older, damaged skin can be transformed with chemical peels. These treatments can help rejuvenate the skin for a younger, healthier appearance. But what are chemical peels, and how do they work? Dr.Karen Leong works with dermatologist Dr. Zena to provide the best chemical peel treatment plan that gives you glowing, fresh skin.

What Are Chemical Peels?

At our clinic, we offer chemical peels made from a medical-grade solution that peels old, blemished skin layers to reveal a smoother, healthier look to the skin. Many people choose to have light peels, but two other depths of chemical peels are also medium and deep.

How Do Chemical Peels Work?

Dr. Leong will directly apply the chemical peel to the skin, which will work with the skin and start peeling the top layers of skin over time. Light and medium chemical peels do not need as much involvement from a physician as deep ones do. Deep chemical peels, such as the Obagi Blue Peel, is a medical-grade treatment that we offer for the deepest skin re-texturization.

*Individual results may vary

The Obagi Blue Peel is a medium to deep trichloroacetic acid (TCA) peel requiring a professionally trained physician to apply the peel best. This treatment is often used with IV sedation or general anesthesia for the patient’s comfort. Treatment can include one to four applications of the Obagi Blue Peel to treat deep skin concerns.

Is There Any Downtime with Chemical Peels?

The amount of downtime can depend on the depth of the chemical peel. Most people opt for a light chemical peel because the downtime is significantly short, taking about a week at most to heal. You can resume your routine immediately after a light peel. Medium depth chemical peels are slightly longer, with the treatment areas healing two weeks after treatment.

Deep chemical peels like the Obagi Blue Peel can have a similar downtime to medium ones or take slightly longer.

Once the skin has peeled and re-epithelialized, you may still remain pink for several weeks.

What Results Will I See After Chemical Peel Treatments?

While the results can depend on the depth of the chemical peel, generally, those who receive chemical peels can see results. Even the light chemical peels can have results such as:

  • Glowing, renewed skin
  • Smoother skin with minimized lines and wrinkles
  • Fading of uneven skin texture – acne scarring, hyperpigmentation, and sun damage
  • Softer feeling and appearing skin.

Am I a Good Candidate For Chemical Peels?

If you have skin concerns such as lines and wrinkles from aging, uneven texture, and sun damage, you may be a good candidate for a chemical peel. During your consultation, Dr. Leong will discuss your medical history in depth and see which chemical peel depth fits you best for the results you want.
