How Does Liposuction Work?

.

Pockets of stubborn fat can leave you feeling self-conscious about your appearance. Liposuction can help eliminate those areas of fat that just won’t go. Dr. Karen Leong will discuss with you the best treatment plan for the most natural, shapely results possible.

What is Liposuction?

Liposuction is a surgical procedure that can reduce fat to contour different areas of the body, such as the abdomen, thighs, and flanks. This surgery produces a slimmer appearance of whichever treated body part. Liposuction is often combined with other procedures. Mommy makeovers and tummy tucks commonly include liposuction for a more defined figure.

What is Liposculpture?

While liposuction is a general plan for minimizing pockets of fat on your body, liposculpting is the comprehensive body sculpting plan that Dr. Leong will make with you. Dr. Leong will directly map out different areas of your body that you want to be enhanced and sculpted. Liposculpting can help remove those areas of stubborn fat while keeping your individual anatomy in mind. Liposculpture may be a stand alone procedure or more commonly is done with the Renuvion device for tissue contraction to obtain firmer, smoother results.

How Does Liposuction Work?

Liposuction uses a thin, long tube called a cannula to suction away fat. During the procedure, Dr. Leong will use your personalized liposculpting plan to best contour the areas of the body.

Liposuction works to suction specific body parts with stubborn fat like the:

  • Abdomen
  • Upper arms
  • Back and chest
  • Chin and neck
  • Thighs, hips, and flanks

What is Recovery Like From Liposuction?

You will wake up in the recovery room with a compression garment to reduce swelling and bruising after surgery. The compression garment promotes healing of the skin as well, keeping it comfortably tight. Dr. Leong recommends lymphatic massage during recovery to further promote healing and reduce swelling.

Depending on the amount of fat removed, you may need to recover at home for 1-3 weeks. Swelling and bruising will be present at least 1-2 weeks after surgery.

What Results Will I See From Liposuction?

Swelling will subside as you heal. While you may start to see some results starting around 6 weeks after surgery, it may take 6 to 10 months for you to see your final new body enhancement. With liposuction, you will look slimmer and more toned without those pockets of fat.

Am I a Good Candidate for Liposuction?

If you are struggling with excess areas of fat that you can’t lose with diet and exercise, liposuction may be for you. Dr. Leong recommends liposuction to interested individuals who have strong skin with few stretchmarks because liposuction surgery does not address skin laxity or loose skin.

Ideal candidates should also have realistic expectations of liposuction. Liposuction is not a drastic weight loss surgery and is for those who are healthy and within their target weight range. Women who get pregnant after liposuction can lose their results.

“I had a botched surgery in 2018 which left me without a nipple and one breast at a c the other a dd… I was absolutely petrified of going under the knife again. Then I developed BII symptoms and knew that the implants had to come out. I researched dr’s who supported BII -(many surgeons Don’t want to believe it) and I found dr prong who was supportive, kind and understood. I have always struggled with stubborn back fat and a bit of excess in between my thighs so dr Leong removed the implants, did liposuction to my arms sides and thighs and performed a fat transfer to my breasts. I am5 days post op and I cannot believe how amazing I feel. She is the best. I would never go anywhere else and would recommend her to anyone. Xo”*
