Many factors take their toll on our delicate facial skin over time. If lines, wrinkles, and loose skin have started to bother you, it might be time to consider a facelift. This procedure restores youthful smoothness and contours for results that turn back the aging process.

What is a Facelift or Rhytidectomy?

A facelift, also known as rhytidectomy, is a procedure that tightens the skin and facial structures to restore a more youthful appearance. A facelift fights sagging skin, wrinkles, and loss of facial definition. Dr. Leong will assess your areas of concern and determine which type of facelift will provide your desired results. A facelift delivers powerful anti-aging results alone or in combination with other procedures.

What Types of Facelifts are Available?

The term “facelift” can include a range of different procedures. All are used to smooth wrinkles and restore definition to the features, but they address different concerns.

Full Facelift

Advanced signs of aging often call for a full facelift. This procedure uses hidden incisions that run from around the ears to the hairline. Dr. Leong will remove excess skin, then lift the skin and underlying structures to restore youthful smoothness and definition. This type of facelift is the “gold standard” for addressing significant skin laxity and wrinkles.

Mid-Facelift

This type of facelift addresses the area around the cheeks and mid-face. It can correct the appearance of hollowness and volume loss, restoring youthful definition and fullness. Dr. Leong may recommend fat transfer in combination with this procedure to maximize results.

Lower Facelift

If you are bothered by your chin, neck, and jowls, a lower facelift can help. These areas can lose definition and start to sag over time. A lower facelift tightens the skin to undo the appearance of sagging jowls, loose neck skin, and poor definition of the jawline. A lower facelift is often combined with neck lift to provide complete rejuvenation.

Xact Minimally Invasive Facelift

This procedure uses a small incision hidden in your hair to provide a subtle, natural-looking lift. Xact might be ideal for you if you want to enhance and define your features without committing to the scars and recovery of a full facelift. Results will last up to 5 years.

What is Recovery Like After a Facelift?

You can expect some bruising, swelling, and soreness after your procedure. Many people do not need any pain management stronger than Tylenol. Dr. Leong provides detailed instructions on caring for your incisions and when to resume various activities. You should look and feel close to normal after about two weeks

What Results Will I See After My Facelift?

Your results will become visible as your swelling starts to fade. Full healing will take several months, so you will continue to see improvements. Dr. Leong will develop a comprehensive treatment plan that includes scar management and ways to maintain smoother, firmer skin. Results can last at least ten to fifteen years. Some people may have revision surgery in the future, but others may remain happy with their results for a lifetime.

Am I a Good Candidate for a Facelift?

Good facelift candidates are healthy and have reasonable expectations. Dr. Leong will review your options and help you understand what improvements you can expect to see. Good candidates have moderate to severe signs of aging, including lines, wrinkles, and skin laxity.
