Plastic Surgery & Social Media | Dr. Karen Leong

The area that I’m in and the culture that we’re in now, we’re inundated with social media, with culture, with images from magazines and television telling us that we have to be this glamorous, perfect, beautiful self.

The way I think about it, if a woman comes to me and says, “I want this, this, and this done,” sure, we can sit down and talk about it. But this is how I view my aesthetic philosophy. You are who are. You are beautiful, but I can help you to really look the way that you feel inside.

What I believe in is natural beauty. I think your glow is from within. But I can help you with the outer covering. We can work on that piece by piece. It’s not always a one-stop bing, bang, let’s get it done. It may take a little bit of work here and there, but that’s what we’re here for. It’s a relationship that you and I build. It’s a journey we take together, one step at a time.

People these days are more and more interested in less is more. They want the nonsurgical, noninvasive, minimal or no scars, something that’s going to get them the best result possible. I’m a surgeon. I’m going to come out and say that. I love to cut, but you and I have to have the same goal in mind. You have to have the same dream. I’m not trying to push you towards anything that you’re not ready for. That’s what I love about being in this area, we have options.

However, not everyone is a great candidate for something less invasive. Sometimes you do have to take that leap and do surgery. However, I am a reasonable person. You and I are going to sit down. You’re going to tell me what you’re willing and not willing to do. I’m going to tell you what I can and cannot help you achieve. It may be a combination of both. It doesn’t have to be all one thing or the other. You may find as we go along that you are ready for more, or you’ll say, “Hey, I’m really happy with what we’ve achieved, and let’s stop here for now.”
